- Swaras are the seven musical notes in Indian music, also known as Shudha Swaras. The word swara comes from the Sanskrit word Svar, which means "sound". Swaras are the sound of a musical note, a breath, and the successive steps of the octave or saptaka. They also represent the complete dimension of musical pitch. The seven basic notes of the scale are:
- Sa: Shadjama, the tonic
- Ri: Rishabha
- Ga: Gandhara
- Ma: Madhyama
- Pa: Panchama, the perfect fifth
- Dha: Dhaivata
- Ni: Nishada
- Tanpura/Sruthibox ( To know the positions of swaras & pitch to swaras)
